We should be used to it by now, and maybe we are: The forecast was for the rain to stop at 7pm but it didn't. But we evening riders are of stout heart, and we decided to eschew the planned Dalkeith ride, in favour of a quick one to Portobello. But by the time 5 of us (2 new to the group) took the paths to Leith and along the Links to Portobello, the rain had eased off, and we extended to Musselburgh and the Esk path by the Golf Course, before turning back to Musselburgh Station then Bruntstane Station.

From there we dropped down to Portobello Beach again, then via Bath St to the Christian path. As expected, this was narrow and a bit rocky and fallen trees tried to bar our way. But we won through and entered Figgate park, and from there into Lochend park.

Traversing the Restalrig park took us to Leith walk, where would you believe it , one cyclist's lights failed near the Lioness of Leith, and we realised we would have to sit down at a table in order to charge them up. Accepting our fate, we had a beer and the ride formally ended.

A cheery ride, though concerns about repeated bad weather are mounting. There's no reason Thursday evenings can't be great as well as grey. I hope it happens soon or I'll have a mutiny on my hands .....
